Oh, darlings, gather ‘round because we have another culinary adventure to talk about! This time, the Saucy King and Queen ventured out for a night of indulgence at Todd English’s Bluezoo Restaurant at the Dolphin Hotel in Disneyworld, Orlando. No little prince this time, just the King and Queen, ready to eat, drink, and be merry in the heart of Disney’s Epcot Resort Area.
Now, let me set the scene. It’s a beautiful evening, the ambiance at Bluezoo is chic and sophisticated, and we’re both ready for a feast. But as any royal knows, a good meal starts with good drinks—and that’s where our journey began.
Let’s talk about wine, shall we? Wine is serious business in the Saucy household, and we were excited to dive into a few reds to kick off our evening. Unfortunately, our hopes for a specific red wine fell flat. You see, the server kindly informed us that the wines we requested were unavailable. Now, disappointing is a mild word to describe that, but kudos to our server for going the extra mile. He tried to source the wines from other restaurants in the hotel—an effort that deserves applause, but alas, the bottles remained elusive.
So, instead, I opted for the house Rosé, gerard bertrand, rosè, languedoc, which, honestly, was a perfectly acceptable choice. As for the Saucy King, he was content with a glass of Honig Rutherford 2021. He was pleasantly surprised, enjoying it so much that he’d definitely order it again. The wine was served at just the right temperature, and that, my friends, is always a plus—Jamie can be a bit particular about the temperature of his reds, and I’ll tell you, we’ve had some unfortunate chilly glasses of red wine at other restaurants lately.
Then there was the Pineapple Whip, cocktail, a tropical concoction with Planter’s pineapple rum, vanilla, Giffard pineapple liqueur, and Élemahule tiki bitters. Now, while it looked beautiful and was clearly well-made, I have to admit—the bitterness took me by surprise. It was definitely an acquired taste, and unfortunately, it wasn’t to my liking. But fear not, I switched to my usual Cosmo (because, well, a Queen can’t go wrong with a classic), and they made it delightfully perfect—thank you, Bluezoo, for that.
Now, let’s talk about the food—because, after all, that’s why we came to Todd English’s Bluezoo in the first place! We were already off to a good start with a large basket of bread served to us as soon as we sat down, which is always a welcome touch. It was warm, fresh, and served with butter—just how the Saucy Queen likes it.
As the Queen (obviously), I chose the Teppan Seared Sea Scallops, Braised Beef Short Rib, and Cauliflower Silk for $25. Let me tell you, darling, this starter could easily have been my main course—it was that substantial and delicious! The scallops were perfectly seared, their sweetness beautifully complemented by the beef short rib, which was tender and rich in flavor. And that cauliflower silk? Pure magic—creamy and indulgent, it tied the whole dish together in a way that had me nearly licking the plate. This starter? A 10/10 for sure.
Now, Jamie (the Saucy King) always enjoys a good seafood starter, so he went with the Shrimp Cocktail, which was $22. But this wasn’t your average shrimp cocktail, oh no—it came with three dipping sauces: avocado purée, bloody mary cocktail sauce, and a third mystery sauce that was equally delicious. The shrimp itself was poached to perfection, with a fresh, clean taste that set the stage for the rest of the meal. It was a refreshing way to begin the meal, and Jamie was all smiles, especially after dunking those juicy shrimp into the tangy cocktail sauce.
For my main course, I went with Bluezoo’s Simply Fish for $42, which was accompanied by creamy risotto, seasonal vegetables, and a choice of sauce. I opted for the white wine sauce, and let me tell you, it was a showstopper. The fish was cooked to perfection—flaky and tender, with a beautifully crisp exterior. The risotto was creamy and comforting, and the vegetables were fresh and light, providing a balance to the richness of the dish. I would definitely order this again. A simple dish, yet executed with such elegance—Todd English’s Bluezoo truly knows how to impress.
As for Jamie, he ordered the Angus Beef Filet for $65, which came with roasted potatoes, field mushrooms, sautéed onions, and a rich truffle porcini sauce. It was everything he wanted in a steak—tender, juicy, and full of flavor. He particularly enjoyed the sautéed mushrooms, which were cooked in the truffle porcini sauce, adding a lovely earthy depth to the dish. He also added a side of mac and cheese for $13, which he devoured in record time. It was creamy, cheesy, and comforting—perfect to pair with the rich steak.
At this point, the King was in steak heaven, and I’m not sure if I’ve ever seen him more content.
Ah, but of course, no meal is complete without dessert, right? Well, darlings, this is where things went a little sideways. We were excited to try the chocolate pudding, which arrived under a chocolate dome—looking like a true work of art. But alas, when we cracked open that beautiful dome, we found that the pudding inside was as hard as a doorstop. Yes, you heard me right—hard pudding! It was so dense and heavy that we both took one bite and had to admit defeat.
The server, who was very attentive and sweet, immediately took the dessert off the check, which was a nice gesture. But, honestly, I think this is a crucial area that needs attention. A dessert should be the grand finale, not a letdown. If Bluezoo could fix the dessert, I would have given this meal a perfect 10/10.
All in all, I’m giving Todd English’s Bluezoo a respectable 7/10. The starters, mains, and drinks were absolutely delicious, and the atmosphere was sophisticated and fun. The wine temperature was just right, the service was top-notch, and the food was executed with precision and elegance. However, the dessert left us wanting more, and the missing wines were a slight disappointment. Still, the overall experience was fantastic, and I would definitely return.
Until next time, Bluezoo, let’s work on that dessert—because the Saucy family loves their chocolate as much as we love our wine!
